Emera New Brunswick

Benefits

New Brunswick, with its diverse mix of energy facilities and resources, is evolving into a centre of energy development and production.  We believe that energy investment projects like as Canaport™ LNG, a receiving and re-gasification terminal near Saint John, and our Brunswick Pipeline natural gas transmission pipeline have had far-reaching benefits for the region.

Local economies were stimulated through construction and its related activities with peak employment levels of 750 people for the pipeline construction alone. Contractors also drew on the services of local businesses, providing direct and indirect economic benefits and employment.

An underground transmission pipeline is the safest and most environmentally responsible way to transport large volumes of natural gas. The Brunswick Pipeline transmission system has increased the amount of natural gas available for the customer base in the Maritime Provinces and northeastern United States.

The addition of this long-term, secure, natural gas supply has helped support and grow the market.

Tax Contributions

Annually, provincial property taxes are in the range of $3 million dollars.  A portion of property taxes remain with the Province of New Brunswick, however a portion is remitted to the City of Saint John and other communities along the pipeline route.

Other taxes paid on the Brunswick Pipeline facility and its operations contribute approximately:
