PIPELINE CLEAN-UP COMPLETE

Clean-up of the 145-kilometre Brunswick Pipeline right-of-way (RoW) is complete.  Grassy areas are greening up well and wetlands are returning to their natural state.  Berms have been built into many hillsides to minimize erosion by heavy rainfall or fast snow melt.  Regular ground and aerial patrols monitor the RoW and valve sites for operational and maintenance reasons, and to guard against unauthorized activity.  Over the winter, they will also monitor the RoW and will address serious concerns such as erosion.  During the summer of 2010, the entire ROW will be assessed in order to identify and remediate areas that are not progressing as desired, such as slow vegetation regrowth.

Brunswick Pipeline does not own the land it crosses; rather, we have limited access rights given to us by land owners.  The RoW has been cleaned up according to each land owner’s preferences for privacy, personal access and methods to deter unwanted vehicle access.  The RoW is not a public route, and Brunswick Pipeline asks those driving off-road to respect the property of others.

Work safely.  Land owners and contractors are reminded to CALL BEFORE YOU DIG when developing plans for work on or around the pipeline.   Pipeline route markers indicate the general area of the pipeline, rather than its exact location.  In Saint John, the one-call phone number is 1-866-344-5463.  Outside of Saint John, call 1-888-410-2220.  If you believe there has been a leak of natural gas, call 911 or 1-888-410-2220.
