Final clean-up of the Brunswick Pipeline 145 kilometre natural gas pipeline Right of Way (RoW) will begin in the urban area on May 25, 2009. The general contractor, Louisbourg Pipelines, will begin work in the Red Head area and continue westward. Work in the rural section will start near Dennis Stream on June 1 and move northeast toward Saint John.
Because construction was completed during the winter, some areas still require preliminary clean-up activities including backfilling and ground contouring. As part of final clean-up, the RoW will be restored similar to adjacent surroundings. For example, in grassy areas the RoW will be reseeded with a mix of native grasses and plants approved by the New Brunswick Department of Environment while wetlands will remain in their natural state. Work will be carried out using bull dozers, backhoes and trucks, and will employ approximately 55 workers. Clean-up is expected to be completed by late September.
To ensure safety all work will be under the direction of experienced foreman, Brunswick Pipeline inspection staff trained in working around “in service” natural gas pipelines, and in accordance with National Energy Board Regulations.
In early February, 2009, air was purged from the pipeline and natural gas introduced into it. All equipment has since been commissioned and Brunswick Pipeline is ready to flow natural gas.
